Mang is our Assistant Scout Leader (but is more usually found helping with our Cubs section). She is named for the Jungle book character who is a bat, a creature of the night, who flitters between all the animals of the Jungle carrying news (or in our case helping out). The word Mang is also in the Chinese lexicon 忙 (máng) is the Chinese character for busy.

And so at 23rd Manchester, we have our own take on the Jungle Book Character:
忙蝙蝠 (máng biān fú) the busy bat.

“Now Rann the Kite brings home the night
That Mang the Bat sets free—
The herds are shut in byre and hut
For loosed till dawn are we.
This is the hour of pride and power,
Talon and tush and claw.
Oh, hear the call!—Good hunting all
That keep the Jungle Law!”
